Also, a 49-year-old woman, Adenike Longe, was arrested for allegedly defrauding many unsuspecting trading companies to the tune of N50m. Longe allegedly collected bags of rice worth N26,100,000 and N16, 800,000 from two different companies to which she issued dud cheques before absconding. The police said she was tracked down at Ore, Ondo State.
The police also arrested five other suspects for belonging to an alleged illegal organisation, Nigeria Merchant Navy. Sixty-four-year-old Oliseh told newsmen that he went into the business of drug trafficking following his dismissal from the police force in 2002 as a corporal. The father of 23, who was arrested in company with his accomplice, Isaac Isheri, claimed that he paid N30,000 for the uniform to a friend of his, who was with the Police Mobile Force, PMF, but died last year. He further explained that he was dismissed from the force in 2002 for using a police Hilux van to transport Indian hemp.
Three teenagers; Jospeh Owa, 15; Fase Samson, 19 and Omowale Ebun, 17, alongside four others were paraded for robbery at the J4 area in Ogun Waterside. Paraded along with the three teenagers were 20-year-old Demola Sunday and Olumekesun Seunfunmi, Peter Michael, 21 and 22-year-old Gbenga Lodge.
The state police boss said the seven suspects were arrested on April 17 by a team of Safer Highway patrol team from Ogbere, after receiving information on their operation.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects included an axe, three machetes and assorted charms, which they used in robbing motorists along the Sagamu/Benin/ Ore expressway.
The suspects, who confessed to the crime disclosed that only N25,000 and one mobile phone were taken from a motorist on the expressway before they were arrested by the police.
The police boss assured that the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
