"World’s heaviest woman" flown from Egypt to India for surgery

An Egyptian woman believed to be the world’s heaviest woman arrived in India on Saturday for weight reduction surgery.
36-year-old Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, who weighs about 500 kilograms, arrived at a health facility in Mumbai after flying from Egypt’s Alexandria city for the treatment.
The woman’s family are reported as saying that she has not been able to leave her house for 25 years.

According to doctors, she is set to be placed under supervision for at least one month before undergoing surgery.
Reports say the Indian doctors that will be in charge of El Aty’s surgery previously traveled to Egypt where they treated her for almost three months, optimizing her conditions and monitoring her vitals before her flight.
Last year, the Indian embassy in Cairo initially denied Abd El Aty's visa request because of her inability to present herself in person at the office.
She was later however granted the visa after her surgeon Lakdawala tweeted to Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj about her condition.
