Arsenal have reportedly sealed the long term future of Mesut Ozil after
the midfielder agreed to sign a new contract at the club.
German news outlet Bild claims that the playmaker will continue to ply his trade at the Emirates stadium after weeks of speculation concerning his future.
Those
rumours now appear to have been put to bed after claims that Ozil was
also unhappy over a lack of incomings during the summer months.
German news outlet Bild claims that the playmaker will continue to ply his trade at the Emirates stadium after weeks of speculation concerning his future.
However,
it is not yet known how long Ozil has signed on the dotted line for -
though the 27-year-old is expected to have been handed a sizeable
increase on his current £140,000-a-week wages.
Ozil is also believed to have been handed the number 10 shirt following the departure of Jack Wilshere, who joined
Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal in August, and Ozil is in line
to wear his favourite shirt number as part of the deal to remain with
the Gunners.
Arsenal
boss Arsene Wenger had been keen to tie the Germany international down
to a longer contract, with just two years remaining on his current deal.
Ozil had initially delayed talks on penning a new contract in early August, with the player linked to a return to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The
North London side eventually strengthened their first-team squad with
the acquisitions of Granit Xhaka, Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi.
Arsenal's attentions are now set to tying down star forward Alexix Sanchez to a longer term deal.
The
Chile striker's contract is also due to expire in June 2018, and
Arsenal officials are worried that the Copa America winner could decide
to leave the Premier League unless a significant offer is placed on the
table.
Ozil and
Sanchez have been in fine form for their club so far this term, with two
and five goals from six and seven appearances respectively.
