Boko Haram terrorists, on
Sunday morning, invaded Shawa village in Askira/Uba Local Government
Area in southern Borno State, shooting and burning down homes and
wounding many residents of the community.
Sources in the village told SaharaReporters that over 20 terrorists
arrived the village on bicycles fully armed. The terrorists were said to
have stormed the village at a time most of the villagers were still in
bed and proceeded to shoot at their homes, forcing the villagers to flee
into nearby forests. The terrorists continued their attack by setting
villagers’ homes ablaze, ensuring they would have no place to return.Bitrus Ishaku, a Shawa resident, said: “There were more than 20 armed men that came on bicycles. I saw them but I didn't have my Dane gun with me, so I fled. I later reunited with my family in Mussa around 5pm.”
A top official of the community’s vigilante group disclosed that no life was lost, but many villagers were injured. The village, added the official, has become deserted.
